But did you know that the role of Gabbar was not offered to Amjad Khan? Yes, you heard it right, there are two actors who rejected the role of Gabbar in Sholay.

Shatrughan Sinha rejected the role of Gabbar in Sholay

The role of Gabbar was offered to Shatrughan Sinha but he was busy with some other projects. So Shatrughan Sinha denied the role of Gabbar.

He didn’t reject the role because of the story and character of Gabbar, he rejected the role because of his date issue.

Danny Denzongpa rejected the role of Gabbar in Sholay

After Shatrughan Sinha rejected the role the director and producer of the movie looked for a perfect actor who could do this villain role.

So after a big discussion between the movie makers they decide to to go with Danny Denzongpa.

But the same problem occurred with Danny Denzongpa as he didn’t have dates because at that time Danny Denzongpa was a very popular actor and he was at his peak at that time.

How Amjad Khan got the role of Gabbar in Sholay

After both superstars rejected the role of Gabbar the makers were in high tension as there was no better option than them for the role of Gabbar.

Writers of the movie suggested the name of Amjad Khan for the role of Gabbar. However, the makers of the movie were not sure that Amjad Khan was fit for this role.

But the writers of the movie convinced the producer and director of the movie to select Amjad Khan for this role and the rest is history now.

Amjad Khan did very well in this movie and some of his dialogues are still popular like “Tera Kya Hoga Kaliya”, “Kitne Aadmi The”, etc.
